The resurgence of noise in visual media—from Korea's "Newtro" aesthetic to deliberately distressed imagery—speaks to a deeper cultural phenomenon explored in your dither project. Drawing from Hito Steyerl's "In Defense of the Poor Image" and Mark Fisher's concept of hauntology, this work examines why we remain captivated by visual noise despite technological advancement. These imperfect images offer both democratic resistance to conventional representation and nostalgic refuge from present anxieties.
